Keshia Chante’s Tips For Packing Like A Jetsetter
I LOVE travelling. I started when I was three, visiting Puerto Rico with my parents a few times, then flying on my own at age 6 to spend summers with my grandparents in Georgia. I’ve been to Dubai, Tokyo, Portugal, Paris, Amsterdam, Kenya etc., and every year, I set my sight on a new destination!
When I’m in the air, a sense of clarity comes over me. It almost feels like a meditation session. The isolation from the outside world, being up in the sky and looking down on a city or vast ocean—I find it very magical. The only source of anxiety for me, however, is the luggage process. I’ve had things damaged before, items stolen and even one time an entire bag went missing for days. There’s nothing worse than flying for 16 hours and ending up with no luggage! So with all of my bad experiences, I hope to arm you with the tools you need to pack like a jetsetter.
First thing’s first: Check in for your flight as soon as you can, online! Airlines give you a 24-hour window prior to departure to do this. I recommend locking in your seat ASAP. (I’ve seen people get bumped off flights because the flight was oversold.)
Mini priority checklist: Passport (make sure it’s not expired), credit card, ID (a second form of ID sometimes is needed), health card for emergencies and my rewards membership card. (Make sure you collect your flight rewards! They go a long way!)
If I am travelling overseas, I also like to have a print out of my flight and hotel confirmations for immigration. (I highly recommend NEXUS if the travelling process is daunting. It’s a serious game changer!)
